Latin is the foundation of the romance languages -Portugese, French, English, Italian, and Spanish. This course teaches Latin from a purely grammatical approach. Memorizing vocabulary, declensions, and conjugations, and applying those ideas to translating is the beginning of learning any language.
Your basic assignment is to complete all of the lessons in the Latin's Not So Tough levels 3 and 4 and listen to the Latin pronunciation CD.
Learning to organize large amounts of data - words, ideas, lists, endings- is an important study skill. As you go through this material, it is important for you to discover ways to drill, file and use information until it is mastered. Then you can teach your students to do the same.
Your assignment for your Cohort includes preparing Latin lessons to teach, and bringing all of your completed assignments. Discussions will center around teaching language classically - how to emphasize the ideas and laws of language in a classroom.
The coursework is geared to 3rd - 4th grade students and contains a few hundred vocabulary words and a half dozen paradigms. This course should take less than 30 hours to complete.
