PreScripts

PreScripts will be a series of consumable copywork books for children between the ages of four and eight. The Prescripts series provides a constructive outlet for young children's copycat tendencies. The pages of these consumable resources will introduce your children to the great stories of the past as they color, trace, and copy sentences about people, places, and events in world history.

The word "prescript" comes from the Latin words prae (before, in front of) + scribere (to write). The English word "prescription" comes from the same root. A physician must write a prescription for you before you can purchase certain medications. The PreScripts series is designed to precede--to come before--writing. Just as we learn to speak by mimicking our parents' words, we learn to write by copying the words that others have written.

Even though learning to write is about developing manual skill and dexterity, what children write is equally important. Copying sentences about world history, science, and literature will prepare them to learn about these subjects when they are older. The names they copy at age five will spring more easily to mind at age seven. The words they trace at age four will be easier to spell at age eight.
