Why Latin's Not So Tough

I enjoyed spending a lot of time practicing the English language this summer with hundreds of home schooling mothers during our free parent practicums. Those who already knew the importance of learning Latin began to see how the tools for learning Latin and English, any language really, are the same. It made so many of us regret that we hadn't been given the tools to master our own language as children so foreign languages would be easier to learn and teach. Our grammy is from Europe and reads in five languages. We want the same kind of education for our children.

Latin's Not So Tough is a very easy place to begin teaching Latin for moms and children who don't know Latin. With older children, we highly recommend going through Levels 3-5 and then proceeding to more advanced, popular Latin texts. For 2nd-3rd graders we recommend completing the entire program before junior high. We start with Level Two as we feel it is the best value for your dollar. Latin 2 and 3 just get you starting with basic vocabulary. The Latin charts in Levels 4-5 are great preparation for high school. Memorization is the key to success in learning any written language, so be prepared to drill.

We listen to the CD whenever we can in the car and I drill the boys using the flashcards in the back of the workbooks. They do the actual assignments themselves (2 pages a day)and I check them. It isn't effortless...it takes brain power and hard work, but the program is laid out so well that progress is fast. Try Level 2 and see how you like it!
